‘Lan Zhan’
Lan Wangji is a biomedical engineer for the Lan Corp Group of companies.
The Gusu Lan Group also known as the Lan Group of Companies or Lan Companies, is a group of autonomous multinational companies in a variety of industries.
Having an interest in both science and engineering a degree in Biomedical engineering (he graduated with first class honours of course) was a natural fit.
He recently joined social media upon the insistence of his elder brother, Lan Xichen, and his adopted son Lan Sizhui, both to increase company presence and help his supposedly ‘lacking’ social skills.
The Lan family is a clan steeped in tradition, an institution within itself. (Though never confirmed, rumour has it that each family member has to learn a great number of rules taken from Daoist teachings that date back to Ancient Times!)
Lan Xichen
Lan Xichen has long been a great supporter of Wangji's blossoming relationship with Wei Ying and has assisted him with Sizhui's upbringing.
Though Lan Zhan can be economical with his wording it is clear he adores his elder brother. (His confidant and sounding board, and, for many years, his ONLY friend.)
They try to meet up as often as possible, though working commitments make that harder than either would like. Regardless of any time spent apart they share a beautiful, close bond.
Lan Sizhui
Lan Zhan, along with his elder brother are involved in many charitable organisations and scholarship initiatives. It was through such philanthropic activities that he came into contact with a young man who had been orphaned at a young age.
He took a personal interest in the boys situation and eventually applied to adopt him. A decision that was to some degree inspired by his own experience as a child.
(Both his parents were killed in a plane crash when he was five years old, though unlike Sizhui he at least had his uncle and beloved brother for support.)
At the time there was much speculation that the boy was a child from some illicit affair. Why else would a young man, and China's #2 most eligible bachelor adopt a child?
Lan Yuan, or Lan Sizhui has followed his father into the field of biomedical engineering. Now in his second year of University he continues to excel.
Whilst studying he remains at home with Lan Wangji and his cat (though he has an entire floor of the house for privacy)
Wei Wuxian
Despite attending University at the same time their majors and personalities could not have been more different. Whilst initially he found interactions with the bright eyed young man a source of annoyance he eventually found himself looking forward to the others presence - even if the goal was clearly to wind him up at all times.
He began to develop feelings for Wei Ying some time in their first year - but was unable to acknowledge them until much later.
Sadly before things had the chance to progress the other left University almost overnight, with seemingly no way to contact him. Many months of rebounded emails later, and with little other option, he resigned himself to this new reality and focused on his degree and future career goals.
Several years passed before the other came crashing back into his life, a lot had changed but his feelings remained.
He had heard comments made reading Wei Ying's job, and although it was never something his family would approve of, he never cared. All he had ever wanted was for the other to be happy, healthy and safe.
His love grew, unselfishly. Content to just spend time with Wei Ying, Lan Wangji never assumed that his feelings could be returned. Despite spending nearly every weekend together (and Wei Ying regularly babysitting A-Yuan) he still lacked the confidence to take things further.
Would he leave again? He would rather have Wei Ying in his life (even just as friends) than risk losing him as a friend.
Things came to a head after a drunken tweet made his feelings embarrassingly obvious. With no way to go but forward (and after a discussion with his brother) he asked his love of many years out on a date.
Nearly 15 years after they first met it was finally time for their first date! They went for dinner at a quiet restaurant on the coast (see pic below for a picture from this very date!)
Things went well and they have been dating ever since. Rumor has it that they may even be moving in together!
Trivia
He has two rabbits (see above) named after two brothers in a famous Danmei novel. 'Hanguang - Bun', and 'Zewu - Bun'.
(Their names are adapted from 'Jun' to 'Bun'. His brother Xichen named them. It is unknown if Lan Wangji has read this book yet...)
When he was at University he once stole two raw chickens from a supermarket, completely inebriated he then presented them to a confused Wei Ying.
He seemed to be offering himself, and the chickens in some strange courting ritual - perhaps one that showcased his ability as a provider?
Naturally he has no recollection of this incident (but Wei Ying of course has photographic evidence.)
Leading on from the above point, it goes without saying that Lan Wangji, as with most Lan's, has very poor alcohol tolerance!
Luckily the times he has been intoxicated can be counted on one hand...though all are very memorable.
He has had (seemingly unrequited) feelings for Wei Ying for well over a decade, much to the amusement and despair of both his brother and adopted son.
He has a very strong and defined physique with abnormally strong arms.
In his home he enjoys a neutral and minimalist approach to decor. He is extremely tidy and organised, the opposite of Wei Ying.
Though he dislikes spicy food he makes sure to keep several bottles of chilli oil stocked at his home for a certain someone.
He is able to play both the piano and Guqin to a very high standard and was a member of a music club at University that focused on traditional instruments.
Since dating Wei Ying he has become skilled in adding chilli oil and assorted spices to a variety of dishes. Most recently? Chocolate Chilli Cupcakes. (Dark chocolate ganache buttercream and red chilli buttercream! See pic below)
